Information for parents and CARERS

Girlhood Reclaimed is a community interest company that aims to disrupt the growing dominance of misogynistic narratives through feminist research, awareness training, and creating safe spaces for young women, girls, and children from marginalised genders to make sense of their experiences and reclaim joy in their girlhood.

Meet the Team

Why are we running workshops?

In the news and academic spaces, we continue to hear how young women, girls, and young people of marginalised genders are experiencing growing rates of misogyny and sexism in public, in educational settings, and online.

We facilitate workshops with young people which are designed to support participants in understanding and communicating their own experiences of misogyny, sexism, and sexual harassment.

We provide a collective environment of sharing and support, alongside opportunities to engage with feminist activism. Together, we explore what it might look like to reclaim joy in girlhood and how we can take action to make that a reality.

This approach helps to undo the harm caused by sexist and misogynistic narratives, present in everyday life.

What will these workshops include?

We introduce key concepts such as safety, freedom, misogyny, sexism, patriarchy, and internalised misogyny to support the group in exploring their own experiences and understanding the harm these systems create.

Together, we examine how these forces shape our sense of safety and freedom, before moving into a collective and positive exploration of girlhood and gender that celebrates our identities and helps us reclaim joy in who we are.

In these sessions, we equip participants with a deeper understanding of misogyny and its harm, but also with a renewed sense of community, encouraging empathy, shared understanding, and stronger relationships amongst the group.

These sessions are aimed appropriately and delivered separately for each age/year group.

We work closely with the school or youth centre’s safeguarding team and provide a trauma-informed and well-safeguarded space.

The workshops will last for 2 hours. When delivered in schools, these will run during lesson time.

Youth and Community group sessions are one-off sessions, with dates and times agreed upon on an individual basis.
